SHS baseball beats Hillsdale in nine innings
Mar 16, 2009
- Staff Reports

MORGAN HILL -- A nonleague matchup with Hillsdale was just what the Sobrato baseball team needed to get back on track.

In the wake of back-to-back division losses to Leigh last week, the Bulldogs outlasted Hillsdale 2-1 in nine innings Friday at Sobrato High School.

The Bulldogs (2-5 overall, 2-3 Blossom Valley Athletic League Mount Hamilton Division) totaled seven hits -- all from different players -- and won it with Chris Bradley's clutch RBI base hit to score Tim Andrade.

"We had plenty of opportunities to end the game sooner, but we still came through with a big win. We needed that after dropping two to Leigh -- two games we could have won," Sobrato coach Ulises "Shorty" Gutierrez, who played all 18 of his players said. "I don't think there was one inning when we batted one, two, three."

Shea Adams scored the Bulldogs other run and also stole three bases and drew a walk, finishing 1 for 2 at the plate.

Sobrato got a strong start from sophomore Tim Giles and a big relief effort from Kaleo Correa. Giles walked five, struck out two and gave up one run on two hits in four innings. Correa held the Knights (3-6 overall) scoreless the rest of the way. He collected two strikeouts and yielded four hits and a pair of walks.

"Timmy hasn't pitched in a while and he started off at a competitive pace," Gutierrez said. "He kept us in the game. Kaleo came in and just threw strikes."

Hillsdale put its only run across in the first inning.
